Thelma Grace (Moye) Barnes departed this life peacefully on April 26, 2023, with her family by her side. Thelma was born September 11, 1927 to the late Johnny and Sarah Moye in Green County, NC. She received her education from the Greene County Public School System.

Thelma was born September 11, 1927 to the late Johnny and Sarah Moye in Green County, NC. She received her education from the Greene County Public School System.

She was a devoted wife to the late Lee Barnes Jr. for 72 years. Thelma worked for Joy Shop Boutique for several years as a sale clerk and was promoted to manager. In the mid 80’s she and her husband became Foster Parents, raising, nurturing, loving and providing a safe home to over 100 children.

Thelma accepted Christ at an early age. She was a devoted Christian and faithful member at Disciples of Jesus Christ as the mother of the church. She also served as a missionary and pastor’s aid at Antioch Baptist church. Her favorite song was Amazing Grace.

Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband Lee Barnes Jr.; two sons: Thomas Barnes and Milton Barnes; four brothers, Lloyd Moye, John Junior Moye, Glaster Moye, and Hubert Moye; and five sisters, Mary Bullock, Betty Gay, Sarah Williams, Hattie Morgan, and Rosa Ward.

She leaves to cherish, her beloved children Sarah Belt (Irvin), Loretta Bernabela, Edward Barnes (Brenda), Johnny Barnes (Stephanie) and one adopted son John Nemie; one sister-in-law Mary Moye; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grand child, host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
